LESS "SAGE ON THE STAGE" AND MORE IN-THE-FIELD DO, WHICH ALSO MEANS MORE FROM *YOU*: THIS COURSE REQUIRES A SUBSTANTIAL COMMITMENT IN PRE-COURSE STUDY AND PREPARATION VIA DISTANCE LEARNING. THE GOAL IS TO UTILIZE THE INHERENTLY LIMITED IN-PERSON TIME FOR MORE DISTANCE IN THE FIELD.

Student Checklist

Actions to be completed by one month prior to course start:
  1. Complete gear checklist and email to IOR.
  2. Complete all the items on the Western Mass MTR1 student checklist.
  3. Provide proof of an Avalanche Level 1 course.
  4. Provide proof of an NSP MTRF or MTR1 course (or equivalent training and/or experience).
  5. Plan a ski tour on Mt Greylock.
  6. Plan and then go on a practice ski tour with all your overnight gear.
  7. Construct a snow shelter and spend a night in it.
  8. Construct an emergency sled and transport a patient across a short distance on snow.
